Ozzy Osbourne once said “The only black magic Black Sabbath ever got into was a box of chocolates.” 🙂

On This Day in R&R History!!!

1957 - Iron Maiden guitarist, Janick Gers, has a birthday. He initially joined in ‘90 to replace Adrian Smith, but remained in the band after Smith rejoined in ‘99.

1970 - John Lennon wrote, recorded and mixed his new single ‘Instant Karma!’ all in one day. It ranks as one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history, recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios and arriving in stores only ten days later.

1971 - David Bowie arrived in the US for the first time; he couldn’t play live because of work permit restrictions, but attracted publicity when he wore a dress at a promotion event.

1977 - The Clash signed to CBS Records in the UK for £100,000. The anti-establishment band fought off claims that they had ‘sold out’ by signing the deal, and released their classic self-titled debut album less than three months later. Recorded and mixed over three weeks in February 1977 for £4,000, it would go on to reach No. 12 on the UK charts and has been included on many retrospective rankings as one of the greatest punk albums of all time.

1997 -Metallica wins the Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock trophy at the 24th annual American Music Awards.

1980 - AC/DC On tour in the UK played their last show with singer Bon Scott when they appeared at the Gaumont Theater in Southampton. Scott died the following month on 19 February after a night of excessive drinking. The final song in the set was ‘Let There Be Rock’.

2005 - U2′s Bono joins British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Microsoft chairman Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland to address the issue of poverty in Africa. “(I) encourage people to do the right thing on the global stage,” says Bono.

2015 - Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were given a song writing credit on Sam Smith’s hit ‘Stay With Me’, because of the similarities to his 1989 track ‘I Won’t Back Down’. ‘Stay With Me’ had been nominated for three Grammys, including song of the year - which honours the writers of the track. Petty’s publisher had contacted Smiths publisher who made an out of court settlement.

2022 - Kid Rock shares a video message that includes an update regarding his upcoming Bad Reputation Tour assuring fans that none of the concerts will have vaccine mandates. “If there are any of these venues (with mandates) — I’m not aware of any, but if there are any — they’re gonna be gone by the time we get to your city,” Rock says in the video.
